Default Linksys WUSB54G, range issues or something else?

Howdy team, this is my first post so please bear with me. I have a WUSB54Gv4 wirelessly connecting to a linksys wrt54g2 router. This thing will connect me to the internet for like 5-10 minutes at a time and then drop the connection for seemingly random periods of time (5min-2hrs). Sometimes I will be connected to the router but not the internet.

There are 2 other computers plugged into the router, and 1 other computer connecting wirelessly and they all have flawless connections. The only thing i can think of is because I am downstairs and the router is upstairs, maybe the connection is weak and wont pick up sometimes.

If thats the case, could you guys suggest the right kind of booster or range extender?

If it's an upstairs/downstairs problem, try turning one of the antenni horizontal and see if your connection status changes to very good or excellent. Also, have you turned security on to your router, and changed the name of it? There are a million linksys routers out there that are wide open and defaulted as 'linksys'. It could be you're not even connecting to your router...

Thanks heckufaguy, when i turned the antenna horizontal my connection to the router improves, but i still get periods of extremely slow/no connection.

So I assume its a range issue, do you (or anyone) have a suggestion as to a good booster that could sove this issue?

Well, you've got no external antennas on the router, so you'll either need to move the router to a more central area, or play with your USB wifi adapter. Since it's on a cable, many different configurations might be possible. High as possible and with as little around it as possible. Older homes, with screen mesh behind the plaster can really dull a signal.
There are 'boosters' so to say, but any wifi extender is going to cost more than another router, often times routers can be configured for WDS. WDS is a repeater mode which links to a 2ndary router to extend coverage. It's not terribly fast, since it's receiving and then repeating everything that needs to go through it, basically cutting speeds in half.
Try setting the upstairs router on the floor (unobstructed if possible) might help penetrate to the basement. You could also try a metal object on the back side of your USB setup, to kind of 'reflect' it's focus towards the router.
Or, poke a hole in the floor, run an ethernet cable, and be done with it.
(Sounds scarier than it is).
