Lost internet connection when using other USB hardware

Hi all,

I am actually troubleshooting for a friend so I apologize if I don't have all the necessary information.

OS: Windows XP SP2 (PC)
Networking: Linksys wireless WUSB54G

When she uses only her Linksys wireless USB adapter on her PC she is able to connect to the internet without any issues.

She recently bought a Microsoft USB NX-6000 Lifecam and when she plugs it in, she automatically loses her internet connection. When she unplugs it and reboots, she gets her internet back.

I believe that there is some sort of sharing violation going on here but I have not heard about that with USB before (I have seen it with incorrectly set up hardware with same IRQ's though). She has tried it on different USB ports (she has 7 of them) and gets the same behaviour each time. I am also not sure if she is using Microsoft to handle her wireless or Linksys (but I will find out).

Has anyone ever seen this behaviour before?

Just a stab, it could be some kind of .dll sharing issue. You might could dig somthing up in linksys' knowledge database, maybe you've already been there though.

As far as IRQs i think those problems have kinda gone the way of the dinosaur since XP.

hi, could be a usb power problem. you could try connecting via a powered usb hub.
