Question Need wireless signal to reach over 285 feet! Help please.

Hello everyone.

I've ran into a little dilemma.

I have a Linksys WRT300W Wireless-N Router running within my house. If you google the router you won't find much on it, but that's not the problem.

Through two walls and 285 feet away I have a two story barn. I recently turned the top floor into a recording studio. But i can't pickup a wireless signal 285 feet away.

I have a Sony Vaio Desktop Computer with a Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter in the back of it. The antenna is right by a window.

Before I upgraded to the wireless-N Router I had a WRT54GS Wireless-G Router. I still have it and have been reading that you can turn it into a wireless "extender."

Does anyone know a good tutorial to help me turn the router into an extender? I found one, but forgot to save it and can't find it again.

I was also looking into building custom antennas. Is that worth it? Do they really work?

What do i need in order for me to receive a signal down the barn?

**If possible, can the two routers connect wirelessly so that I can connect the computer via an ethernet cable and be able to connect other things such as my Xbox 360 if i took it down the studio.
