Default Problem Acquiring Network Address on Wireless Dell Inspiron Laptop

Hi

I'm setting up a wireless network for a friend and am seeing a problem when his Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop tries to connect to the Wireless Router. I've successfully set up a KLinksys Dual A+G wireless router and tested it with a WinXP PC and can connect to the internet through a wired connection. I also can connect from the laptop while it is wired. However, when I try to connect through the wireless card, I'm having trouble acquiring an IP address.

The Laptop is running winxp. I can't remember the wireless card model off the top of my head but it's the default Dell installs.

The wireless is configured to use a custom SSID and WEP security and channel 6, though I can't find any place in the wireless card's properties to set it to a specific channel. It finds the wireless access point along with a number of others in the building, so I'm assuming it knows what channel to use.

Any advice would be appreciated. I can get any details from my friend to help.

Thanks!

Eric

Default problem solved

Hi

Problem solved by dumping the WRT55AG router and replacing it with another access point. Up and running within the hour.

Sorry I missed this post. Just to trace the problem, what strength WEP were you using on your laptop and access point, were they the same?

It's also possible that the card in the laptop just wasn't compatable with the access point. It doesn't happen often, but I've seen it happen where a card just will not connect to an access point, but you try another card and it will without any problems.
