Quick question regarding wireless network + laptop

Hi, I bought a Sony Vaio laptop and just signed up for AT&T DSL service. Unfortunately, since I went with the dry-loop service (no need for land line), they won't add the free modem so I have to buy my own equipment. My question is do I need a modem + wireless router or can I just plug in a wireless router into the phone jack? Or is there a combo modem/wireless router you can recommend? The only thing that will be on my network is the laptop which has wifi ability of course, so I won't need a direct connection anywhere. Thanks.
