Unhappy Remote desktop on windows xp pro as host

I have two pc with

first pc running Windows XP Professional
second pc running windows xp home edition.

setup to run windows xp pro as host on remote desktop.

dsl modem set to bridge mode,
router configured to forward 3389 port,

remote desktop on client computer ( windows xp home ) runs fine on local network and DIALUP using fax modem works great.

my main problem is :
when I try using my company wired ethernet connection , does not connect.

I was able to ping the ip address of my dsl public address.

answer to wan connection problem outside of local would be appreciated.

Are you the system administrator at the office, they may have a firewall blocking this type of connection for security reasons. Are you able to connect from any other internet connection not at your office?.

cheers

If you find the company firewall is blocking RDP and you can't get that changed, try using an HTTPS-based product such as GoToMyPC from Citrix. It basically achives the same thing but using HTTP(S) which most firewalls will allow as it simply looks like any other web traffic at first glance. Note that really smart administrators sometimes set their firewalls to specifically block this type of content as well but it will be worth a try.
