Default Router and repeater setup including directional antenna

Really after some help please guys.. I'm pulling my hair out here!

If i set the scenario it may help, last year a friend asked for some help setting up wireless in his house. As an IT Technician i thought i could turn my hand to a little networking.. how wrong i was.

My friends house is fairly large, 8 bedrooms large. He also has an outbuilding where his parents live. The outbuilding is at the end of his garden, about 200 meters away.

He wants to have a single internet line in the house.. he is currently on Talk Talk and wants it distributed to all areas.

New to it all i called a company about getting an antenna, they wrongly diagnosed and suggested i buy an Omni-directional antenna with only 7 degree vertical vision. I also bought a edimax Router and wireless extender with this, in the hope the extender can go the other end of the Main house to make sure coverage is good all round.

Realising that a consistent signal wasn't occuring with a month or so of trying to tweak the setup i looked to buy a more efficient directional antenna with a 35 degree range.

this is the setup i have currently, i have moved the channel of the router to 11 and changed the mode from N to G after some advise (unsure if thats correct)

My friend tells me that the setup is not reliable and he needs to reboot the router daily to try and get it working.. in fairness every time i go around the setup is very temperamental and hard to diagnose.

What i would say is when i turn the extender off the whole setup seems a bit smoother, is it a possibility that the router and extender clash?

Also the router has had one of its directional antennas removed to allow for the directional antenna.. even with the repeater could this explain why receiving a connection in the house is temperamental also

Just any advise please guys.. happy to spend a fair amount on getting a very decent router and repeater that will do the job very well

Thank you
Carl

I would simply put a router on each floor via either net cable. You would have to configure each one for wifi but that's no problem. On the top floor I would come out of the house with a Hawkins booster anntana. That's the set up I'm using and has long rang.
