Default Routers problems

hey guys, first post here..

when i first installed my belkin driver,i did it manually(192.168.2.1) because somehow the software did'nt load properly.

However,in the recent few months i had problems with one of the computers connected to the router(via cable not wireless)

hence i decided to check it out today and went to the belkin options(192.168.2.1)>Internet Wan>MAC address and i realise that the mac address was that of the comp that did'nt connect to the Internet.Hence on the connected comp,i decided to change the mac address to this computer and true enough,it did'nt work.

However i dont see how mac address could be the problem here.

the description for this option is as followed:

Some ISPs require that you clone(copy) the MAC address of your computer's network card into the Router. If you are not sure then simply clone the Mac address of the computer that was originally connected to the modem before installing the Router.Cloning your MAC address will not cause any problems of your network

After a few restarts of the modem and router, the connection finally worked for both computers

however this morning i was faced with the same problem again(Limited or no connectivity). To be sure that it was'nt the modem fault,i connected directly to the modem on one computer and the connection was fine.

also, the router LEDS were lit up as it should and not flickering.

I thought that the fault lies with the belkin router hence i switched to another brand new router -PCI router.

However the same problem persists when i set up the PCI router,i wondered if it had anything to do with the connection settings.I set it to automatic configuration -DCHP

any help??
