Default sending, not receiving?

well, this is how it goes:
we hv tow laptops, both with built in wifi cards, both with xp proff...
we managed to create a network, log on to it, etc.. when i share folders, the other laptop can access them. i cant access any of his shared folders though.. so annoying!! when i write on the command prompt "ping MY IP_ADDRESS -a" i get packets send:4 received:4 lost:0
when i write the same thing with his ip address, i get request timed out 4 times, and then packets received:0 lost:100%...Please help this is so annoying!!tnx

Has the other laptop got a firewall running on it? They often block all incoming traffic by default, even the one built into Windows XP.

Default Wizard

Have you tried running the network wizard on each computer. Just open the network connections window and click on the "Set up a home or small office network" task and it will guide you through, and it will create the correct rules in the windows firewall to allow connection between computers. By default the "Shared Documents" should be shared and you can add more by going into the properties of each folder. Make sure you have all the computers in the same Workgroup.

Good luck

Dale
