Default Setting signal strength before switching to different AP

Hi there,

I have a Router and an Access point at home, set to broadcast the same SSID, same WPA, same everything. Can connect to both and work fine. However when moving from one end of the house to the other, devices dont automatically switch to the AP with the highest signal. They remain connected to the AP they were on when connected initially, and signal becomes very low on them.

Any ideas of how I can set it so devices switch automatically to whichever AP has the highest signal in that one location, depending on the location of the device?

I have a mixture of devices; Windows laptops, MacBooks, iPhones/iPods etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks very much

Default

this is not a simple home router feature. this is a task performed by high end enterprise grade APs controlled by a central controller. they talk back and forth through the wired connection, negotiating the handover.
