Default Signal Strength Problem/Everyone else no problems

Hi Forum --

I have a bit of a problem, and am to the point where im scratching my head to figure the answer out. First, I live in a 4 bedroom house aprox 3000 square feet with two roommates.
She has the router in her room connected to her labtop wired. At the time, we were using a Linksys A+G router. Her dog decided he was hungry and took out a piece of one of the atennas. Since this happened, I have had nothing but problems with signal stengeth and connection problems. My speed would flucuate from 54 mbps to 1 mbps very quickly. I also had a "very low, low" signal strength during this time. Also, this network in the house did not have any security settings on it.

So, yesterday I went out and bought a new linksys wrt54gs router hopefully to fix this. I went through all the instructions in installing it. I created a new network, which was based on channel 6. I also added security to it, which was wep128 bit code.

Ofcourse, since her labtop is right next to the router, her signal strength is peaking perfectly and excellent. Again, she is wired still here, with a ethenet card going to and from the router. I added my computer, logged into the network, and well have the same problem still. My signal strength is terrible, lags out and again flucuates from 11 mbps to 1.

My other roommate, who also has a labtop is downstairs and was having problems. However, she wasnt on the new network. So i logged her in as well, and she has no problems whatsoever. Signal strength is excellent running at full speed. Yet im only 20 feet away from the router and have the worse problems. Granted, their are walls but I never had a problem when I first moved in.

My final thing, I took my roommates labtop next to router, unplugged the ethernet and brought into my room. The worse singal she got was GOOD mostly VERY GOOD, so now Im scratching my head.

Any ideas what could be the problem? Is it my wireless card?

If the two other laptops aren't experiencing signal strength problems then your problem could be with your network card. Swap out your network card with one of the other network cards and see if this resolves your problem.
