Default TCP missing! Can't change IP address

On XP, the LAN and Wireless Network controls suddenly LOST their TCP configs.
I tried to ADD a protocol but got a missing file error.

I have internet and the realtek wireless is working, but there is no connection.

Basically, I can't access the TCP controls to change IP and shell addresses.

Any ideas?

I would run an anti-virus and adware check to see if you have picked up something nasty.
Then you can either try fixing the TCP problem by running WinsockXPFix |MG| WinSock XP Fix 1.2 or by following the MS instructions How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista

Thanks. I ran virus scan and Winsock checks - all fine. I even renew/released ipconfig.

Here is a screenshot of the weirdness: TCP no longer listed in list, and component name no longer listed, but if I click config it goes to the right component config panel.

Both LAN and Wireless Network controls are like this.

Did you do this?

Step 2: Install TCP/IP
1. Right-click the network connection, and then click Properties.
2. Click Install.
3. Click Protocol, and then click Add.
4. Click Have Disk.
5. Type C:\Windows\inf, and then click OK.
6. On the list of available protocols, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.

If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) does not appear, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, and then click Search.
b. In the Search Companion pane, click More advanced options.
c. Click to select the following three check boxes:
• Search system folders
• Search hidden files and folders
• Search subfolders
d. In the All or part of the file name box, type nettcpip.inf, and then click Search.
e. In the results pane, right-click Nettcpip.inf, and then click Install.
7. Restart the computer.

Had to install the file manually. and rebooted. No change. Still as in screenshot.

If I disable DHCP, would that be useful?

If you have no access to TCP/IP how do intend to disable DHCP? It would not be useful in any case.

Is your version of XP just XP, SP1,SP2 or SP3?

After you carried out the MS Winsock check did you delete the Registry entries listed? If you did not delete these entries then the TCP/IP reinstall will not work.

Default ok

DHCP is accessible via control panel>admin tools>components>...

I use XP SP3

I have not changed / edited any registries. I used the XP TCP/IP repair, but no effect.

When I try to connect LAN to Wireless, it says there are more than 1 IP address assigned to LAN. ???
