Default Unable to connect wirelessly with Netgear Router

I have a Netgear router (WGR614 v7) and a Macbook. I am able to connect to the internet via the cable modem, and also when the modem is connected to the router and the router to my computer, but when I unplug the router from my computer to use it wirelessly, it says that I am offline. The internet still works if I plug my computer in directly to the modem. I have reset all the info for my router, tried restarting the modem/router/computer but no luck. Netgear won't give me tech support, so I'm at a loss for what to do. I've downloaded the latest firmware as well. Any ideas?
