Vista is asking for more info than needed to connect to a router with security.
Hello,
A few months back I bought the Belkin N router (on my computer downstairs, XP) which came with a Usb adapter ( on my laptop,Vista), when all this was installed the connection was fine, we put security on the router, and once the password (from the computer upstairs)was entered it was never asked for again until I ejected the adapter.
However, the adapter broke and so I used the adapter inside my laptop to connect to the router. So I started connecting and had the WEP password with me ready to enter then vista said, 'additional login information is required', and then it asked for Username, Password and Login domain.
I have no idea how to get round this as i don't have a username or login domain. I have tried many username and password combinations and it has failed stating '...failed to connect to the network'.
I don't really want to buy an adapter as I can't afford it at the moment and I don't want to take the security off as i don't trust the neighbours much.
Is this a Vista problem and do you have a method of getting round this?
I have spent a day already trying to connect, what do you advise?
thankyou for your time.
I understand the issue. It was working fine before but We have a security issue with Vista operating system.
In this case we can change the security as WPA(PSK) in the router and try connecting the network from Vista computer.
We have to remove the networks and then try to connect again in the computer.
Steps:
1) Change the SSID and security(WPA) in the router.
2) In the vista computer go to the computer icon on the right corner(System tray).
3) Right click on that and click on network and sharing centre Or go to control panel and click on network and sharing centre.
4) Now Click on the option "Manage wireless network" in the left hand side.
5) Then click on the network and click on remove (including your network also).
6) After removing all the networks click on "ADD" option and click on "Add the network which is in the range of the computer".
7) There you can see the new network. Click on that and click on connect.
8) Enter the new WPA password and click on connect.
It will get connected. This is the fix for the security issue in the Vista OS.
I don't know if this is what worked but know that I was able to connect today after having the same problem. I read where the SSID name is case sensitive. I think I'd been typing one of the words in lower case. I capitalized that word and it connected. I also had to go in and manually create the network. One of those two things worked or it was something totally unrelated.
