Weird Modem to Router Issue

Ok I have looked in the forum and all the topics sort of touch on it but do not help me at all. So here we go with another issue.

Problem: Cant use my router to get online.

What I can do:

1. I can connect to my wifi router and modify it
2. I can get internet from the modem itself to a laptop

What I cant do:

1. I cannot get internet through my wifi router (nor the one I had baught a few hours ago)
2. The house is setup to where it has eathernet ports everywhere but when I connet the modem to the house I cannot recieve a connection from the ethernet ports around the house
3. I manually typed in primary and secondary ip's for my router to get and still nothing worked

I shutdown the setup all last night and tested it out again but it still is not working as it should. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I'm clueless as of right now.
