Default Wifi intermittently cuts out and in

Hello,

I am running off Verizon FIOS with an Adaptec MI424WR modem/router. Two hardwired computer never have connectivity issues. Wifi is a different story. With two different laptops (IBM Thinkpad w/internal adapter and a Sony Viao with a D-Link AirPlus G DWL G630 802.11g external card) throughout the day, the connection will cut out, then back in again within a few seconds. This will happen a few times over about a five minute period, then everything will be fine again. Verizon tech support suggested changing the channel, which I've done repeatedly to no avail. I haven't tried them all yet, but so far 8 of 11 available channels have had this problem. There's nothing going on in the house when this problem arises (no microwave on, etc.) We do have a 2.4 GHz cordless phone system, but no phone activity (calling out, receiving calls, maintaining an open line) seems to trigger the problem, so I don't think that's it. TVs are off and remotes are idle. We have a Hawking Technology signal booster attached to the router and signal strength doesn't seem to be an issue. In fact, the problem seems to more frequent/severe when the laptop in question is in the same room as the router. For the record, this is our second router (both Adaptec, differnt models) and we've had the problem with both of them. Any thoughts on what could be happening other than a channel conflict? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
