This is an interesting problem I have been having for quite awhile now.
I have a slightly dated laptop, running Windows 2k, 500mhz, and about 128mb RAM.
I purchased a PCMCIA wifi adapter for it a couple years back, installed it, and used it for a few months without any or very little issue.
But lately the entire system will lock up completely when I insert the card.
I have run multiple virus scans with several different programs, and came back with nothing.
The funny thing is, the system will return to normal if I remove the card.
Finding this, led me to completely purging the drivers from the system, and reinstalling them. This did not solve the problem.
I removed them once again, went to the manufacturers website, and downloaded new drivers. This did not fix it.
I figured the card must be defective, and tried it on another computer. But it worked fine. I have tried several other cards in this laptop, including USB based adapters, but each time, the sytem will lock up instantly, and return to normal if the adapter is removed.
What else should I be checking? what am I missing here? Any suggestions?
Thanks.
