Broadband speed on one of my laptops is really slow and I cant work out what is wrong.
I have an ADSL router, a desk top and two laptops connected. If any of these three PC's is connect using LAN the broadband speed tester I use gives a consistent download speed of between 8 and 10Mbs and an upload speed of about 800Kbs. However, when the PC's are connected using WIFI one only gets 3-4Mbs download and 800Kbs upload but the other two are the same as the LAN connected speed. These speeds are consistent and all readings have been taken in the same room as the router although they are similar in other parts of the house as well.
I have also tried two different WIFI cards in the slow laptop, an Atheros A5006XS internal and a Realtek 500mw external USB but the results are the same. I have also de-installed the WIFI drivers and reinstalled tem one by one. This seems to point to the problem being in the laptop rather than anything to do with the broadband provider, router setup or interference. As the speed difference is a factor of 2 it did occur to me that it might be a simplex/duplex issue but I wouldn't know where to start looking at this.
