Wireless keeps disconnecting

Hi all

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on a problem I am having please.

I am connecting to my friend's unsecured wireless network (Netgear modem), however, two strange things are happening:

1) The Wireless Network Connection box is telling me the network is 'Not Connected' when it is as I can connect to the internet.
2) My connection is disconnecting from the internet approximately every ten minutes, but my friend's laptop is staying connected when this occurs.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If your friend is staying connected wirelessly then it would point to either your machine/Wireless card or interference in you immediate vicinity. Start by updating your drivers with the Manufacturers Drivers rather than XPs generic drivers and also try turning off powersaving management for your Wifi Adapter via Device Manager.

Distance might also be an issue. Obviously, weaker connections are less stable.
