Default Wireless N Router with Dual Band question

Hey, I might buy a dual band wireless n router. It has a 2.4ghz band and a 5ghz band (they run simultaneously) , so we could put the wireless g's on the 2.4ghz and the n's on the 5ghz band. Im planning to buy a wireless n adapter for maximum speed. Question is, do i need to buy a 5ghz wireless n adapter to use the 5ghz band? or can i just use a 2.4ghz adapter?
