Question Wireless network speed oscillations, VERY strange problem

I've seen a lot of network issues, but this one has me right buggered.

Starting today I have been experiencing an oscillation phenomenon. The best way to describe this is that given any particular download source the download will proceed ramp up to the usual great speeds and then suddenly choke itself out. Wait say 10-15 seconds and it will do it all over again. It's endless and it has been doing it all day.

No changes have been made to the network internally and I can demonstrate this across multiple applications. Of course its wreaking havoc on Internet browsing as everything is intermitent. Once minute it works, next it doesn't.

I went so far as to restore my machine from a backup and still the same thing. I am unable to try a hard line to the router unfortunately. I would like to elimate the wireless as the problem area, but cannot.

I am interested to hear from anyone that has experienced this themselves.

The whole cycle seems to take about 5 minutes. I've checked the wireless card and it seems fine (seated properly etc). I'm on Bell Canada DSL and up until now have had excellent connectivity. Fortunately the Internet is still somewhat useable, albeit wonky. This is a really wierd one.

Cheers

Sounds like you are getting interfereance from another wireless device, either another network running on the same channel or even something as innocuous as a cordless phone ( most all of them use the same 2.4GHz band as wifi)

try changing your router settings to channel 3 or channel 8 and see if that helps.

channel 11 is used mt wifi, channel 3,6,8,9 are used by radio.

so try out some other channels other then these.

and try to upgrade your router firmware too.
