Default Xbox 360 Lag

Hi, im hoping someone here can help me. im sure my problem is fairly simple to fix but im useless with wireless things. here goes.

until recently ive run my xbox360 direct through my modem, we have a 10mb connection (although runs closer to 8) and every game runs smoothly. an added bonus is i pull host in games regularly too.

we recently got a belkin wireless G plus MIMO router. i still prefer to run my Xbox360 through one of the wired ports but the connection is awful! on the wireless network there is normally 2 or 3 laptops on the go, not much downloading going on though, mostly browsing the internet and MSN messenger.
i play halo 3 alot online and the connection seems to just spike into lag and then it stays there. is there anyway to configure the router so only a set percentage of the connection can go through the wireless connections? if this sort of network configuration isnt do able or is quite hard to explain, is there any other routers or procedures you recommend to sort this out?

many thanks in advance
