Default Albany / Greenhithe Node

Hi,

Just got my AP delivered and will be setting up my node on Saturday to go live, building it tonight. I need a set of IP addresses as well as a name of someone I could possibly connect to. I am on nodedb but don't see anyone.

My other problem is that I'm in a ****** dip and see hills all way round, so whats suggested for a strong antenna?

I'm using a DWL-900AP+

Thanks
Barry

Hey,

Best to read some other posts in the forum (in regards to getting an IP subnet)

http://www.nzwireless.org/postt82.html

But i've setup a subnet for you, and emailed you the details anyway

Default antenna

Hi,

If anyone has a biquad or antenna lieing around that they arn't using because they have upgraded to something better. Please contact me as I would be interested in buying or lending one.

Thanks
Barry

P.S. my DWL-900+ap has 5v 2amp output, would it be possible to do ROEP? I cant find a 5v 2a regulator at dick smith and not sure if i can push that power through cat5e?

I have a dlink 900+ as well, and was going to do PoE, but doing it at 2A would cause a huge volt drop, so i'm going with an external dc power cable which i'll run next to the cat5 cable

Default POE

I built a power over ethernet kit for just over $30 from Dick Smith. It works fine with my Dlink DWL-2000AP.

This link is what i followed and it works well.

Default PoE

Ok, my PoE doesnt seem to be working, it goes on, then all the lights flash, then LAN light goes off and WAN flashs very dim. I guess it's a volt drop over the 17meter cat5e cable.

Questions:
1./Does it matter if it's a core cable and not fibered, i.e. 1 strand and not many.
2./ Does 5v 2A go through cat5e alright?

5v 2A over 17m cat5 should drop about 2.38V, which is about half of your voltage, hence why your AP isn't working. I decided not to go with PoE for this reason, and will be running a seperate DC cable which should have a very low volt drop.

For those who want to calculate the volt drop

cat5 is about 7ohms per 100m (i think)

V = IR

therefore
17/100 * 7 = 1.19ohms for 17m

V = 2Amps * 1.19ohms
V = 2.38V
