Default (auckland cbd) Cook Street Node - Possible interest

righto guys just a general query to see who would be keen on a cook street node.

it would be on my balcony which from my right hand side i can see all of skycity and all those apartments being built on victoria street, all the way down hobson street,

looking left i see all of vic park markets and i can see the shore but alas no nodes for me to pickup

i will post pics when im home hopefully, it will be from my phone so they aint the greatest quailty but you will get the drift

Hi,

Welcome to NZW.

What gear were you using to pick up the nodes? I am guessing if you got an external aerial up there i.e. parabolic dish, then you would def. find more than enough. I am only summising but if you can see north shore you might be able to see trvln.

Have you entered your self on http://www.nodedb.com/newzealand/ni/auckland/?

Cheers,

Wookie

hiya wookie

i am entered on the node.db as said in your helpfull n00b guide

i dont have an aerial as such yet just a DSE Usb WLAN adapter for now (my old place i had no need for anything more) but now i do, this thing does not have an aerial connection so i am going purchase a wireless pci card more than likely and find a parabolic dish from somwhere unless you have any other suggestions ?

cheers

Hi Fobski,

You can get some cheap PCI cards from DSE. They have a detachable aerial which i think is a RPSMA connector. Then all you need to do is get some cable to connect to your antenna and point it in the general direction.

I generally will use netstumbler first and see what i can see. From DB and noise levels you can judge what type of aerial you need.

Who do you plan to connect to?

Was there anything more in the Noob guide that I could add to help out?

Wookie.

Are you up high? That would be a great place for a node. You might be able to see all the way to ponsonby. I think there is some one near new world. I have some access to a buildind on the corner of cook and hobson but I don't live near there. You could be a link to AUT and Ponsonby?
Shadow X has good cards and antenna. I can try and supply some stuff if needed.
