Default deciding what tew dew

hey...

i have a problem... well... not a problem... just a question...

I have a WAP11 access point thats doing nothing, and I want to use it for a wireless setup, only problem.... theres about 4 people I can in theory connect to, but either ive lost touch with them, or they have not got the time/money to get any equipment....

My question is, should I...

1) purchase an omni antenna and some cable and connect it to my AP and just run the bitch waiting for some1 to connect to it?
or...

2) wait (for another 6mnths etc :|) for some1 to get some wireless gear and then get a directional antenna and cable and connect to them?!

I just wanna get a connection going ;(...

btw.. im in the Clendon Park area if anyone wants to know (which is in Manurewa)

If you get your link up it might get other people interested. You need activity to get activity. it is catch 22... put it up!!!

Go ward driving and find the suckers you can connecto to. then use something very directional and hone in on them.

Then again, build the Mother of all nodes (like me) and wait until they start coming around asking questions.

As an alternative, build the mother of all nodes, grap an amplifier and swamp ann the channels. You will soon figure out who they were whe they come around and pull your mast down.

The latter is not really advisable as it also may cause you more greif than what its worth.

I built an areial like this

http://wireless.gumph.org/articles/homemadeomni.html

and it works well, took about 2 hours to make and cost about $20.

I get good distance out of it but am now going to upgrade it to a 12db one from fab-corp.

The Omni that i made definatly has a lot more distance than the stock ap that it is pluged into, i have yet to do distance test with it.
