Notes: Initially the laptop could see the access point, and had it on the list of available networks, be reported "failed to connect to network" each time it attempted to connect. After about an hour of trying different settings on both the card and the AP, i discovered that while the AP was on 22Mbit mode (1-2-5-11-22) it could not talk to the nokia card (this may just be a problem with the nokia card)
After changing it to 11Mbit mode (1-2-5-11), the laptop would report the connection as connected, the access point would register that a client is connected with the correct MAC address, everything seems fine on this level. The laptop was set to static ip, it could not ping the AP, or anything on the other side of the AP. After changing the laptop to dhcp, it would not even pick up an IP address from the dhcp server.
I can tell ya the Comapq card is basically a Lucent/Orinoco. Casing etc is the same appart from the name.
It pays to search out some Orinoco updated drivers, using those the Compaq card, Orinoco/Wavelan Gold, silver and Bronze all went on a laptop with 'NetStumbler'.
As D-link have their own proprietry 22MBit architecture this may cause incompatibility in many cases if enabled.
