Default Internet and Billing for Wireless backbone

These are two requirements that need to be looked at for the Wireless Backbone. The ability to revenue share also is key. This is real commercial stuff here with your nodes. Sharing access for ad hoc users would also be useful. Dang, why not be a hotspot?
Internet access is available also.
I would be keen to see your thoughts on this as I know of a system that can do it now and there is enthusiasm to support a community network initiative.

I think this is a great idea, If there were a way to inject internet connectivity and cover the costs at a guess i would say there would be a fair few people wanting to move to a system like that.

The way i thought of doing it a while back was to use a DSL solution to connect all the nodes then use a central DSL to feed the internet access. It would even be possible to do some funky routing/tuneling and issue all clients with REAL IP addresses.

People then could be able to wander around AK and still use their connection without worrying about the lo9gistics or changing settings.

Im all for it

hmmmm. that would lead to quite high ping times, as each dsl connection you go through adds ~35 ping. and dsl is very expensive.

it's not like you would be doing anything that required a heinously low latency if you were roaming

Agree with Captain K - its no big deal. And real net access has never been cheap.

Hi there,
Has this idea still got traction? I may be able to get access to a few buildings along queen street that has fiber and could potentially able to inject internet. I am trying to work out a plan of building a WLAN in the city...

Cheers
Zapf
