Default the mothere of all nod's

okey let me see. okey i want to chuch up a node.. i live in Churtonpark Wellington. now i would like to make it the all mighty powerfull bastard we have ever seen! how do i do this? sorry im kinda stupid.. erm i cant give internet access as its yeah im on a 56k..

also people why havent you put your money/brais together and thought humm.. now the best place for a node is a good location for reception.. yeah? like a high place? right.. humm so what is high already a tower and set up for digital transmission?

Skytower?, yes!
Cellphone site?, yes!
water tower?.. yes..
why not try and achieve these places?
i believe it should be done!

it may be possible to get a deal with vodafone if enough people in one area are intrested! they already have walker wireless.. so maybe if a group creats an "open source" wireless node company... such as humm unix.. for example.. you may get some power/respect and they may allow you to "use" their stuff/towers.. you may do what unix (
SUN) are doing to microsoft.. kicking their ass! go out there and kick telecom's ass plus the other idiots out there..

also i have not really got anyidea what a node really does besides acts as a wireless lan.. but arent they like relays aswell?

alot for a small brain to handel!

Actually, I was not going to ask...

My work have moved buildings, and are now in a place that overlooks the Waitemata harbour, we can also see the harbour bridge, Skytower, heaps of north shore, and west.

I do not have access to the roof, but I am on the 17th floor, and I wonder if a flat panel aerial stuck to the interior of the windows would work.

Does anyone know what the effects of glass are on wireless signals? I know the Skytower has 'low attenuation glass' but I do not know how much this will affect the signals.

I will get some photos of the areas I can see, and will post them later.

Default Wireless Community Project

Would be nice if it were possible.

Skytower is not really an option as last i heard there was a prety long waiting list for spots. also the costs is prety high.

Feltex building in AK, Symond Street is prety much the same as is the Clear POP building in Penrose. (unless you have an office with antenna rights).

Water Towers are a great idea but usually surrounded by trees these days and often in fringe areas.

Using Vodaphone is not an option as this would be seen as a conflict of interest and could damage relationships between them and their current business partners.

However. Possible options is it were to be a Community Based project could include setting up our own towers. There are still regulations that come into play but because its a public project council's are required to assist and with the right amount of local support the local boddies dont get much say in the matter.

Schools would be another alternative. Offer the schools 802.11 connectivity in exchange for a 2 level tower system that provices one level for the school to use the other is public access.

We have a power backbone that requires "Iron Giants" the towers that carry primay power feeds. One issue here is that you need a cable that goes down to ground and would need some form of arcover protection should something go wron on the tower or should the mosture in the air enable the HVDC to arc over to your antenna.

But i do agree, we really need to get together and combine our efforts.

Regards
Andrew
