Hi and welcome to NZWIRELESS

You no doubt have a multitude of questions about how, why, when and how much.

If you are interested in becoming involved or connected to the NZWIRELESS network then start here!

What you need to do first!!

1. Become a member here. If you havent put in a suburb go back to your details and enter one. This will aid in trying to hook people up!

2. go to http://www.nodedb.com/newzealand/ni/auckland/? and enter yourself on the map. Make sure you add an email address so people can contact you who are near by.

3. Get an IRC client like Mirc or Kvirc and joing us on the irc.nzwireless.org server. Channel "nzwireless". A lot of people hang out here and they can answer your questions.

4. Decide if you want to buy some gear. "Shadow" in the buy/sell/exchange forums offers the best prices in Auckland and NZ for wireless gear. Trust me i have checked!! See post below

5. Get on your roof and post some photos of what you can see

6. Find others in your area through the irc channel or nodedb.com and contact then to try and connect.

7. Reap the wireless rewards or free bandwidth!!!

Have any questions? Post them in the relevant section of the forums or email me!

Cheers and welcome

Wookie.

Want to get some gear but dont know what to buy?????

Here is a all in one solution to get you started if you are lost at what gear to buy:

Want to be a node so lots of poeple can connect to you? Get this:
Excel AP -

http://shop.borg.co.nz/product_info.php?cP...bf11553922b4e73

Just want to connect to someone else and not accept other connections: Get this:
Client PCI Card -
http://shop.borg.co.nz/product_info.php?cP...bf11553922b4e73

Aerials:
Got some one to connect to? Use a directional like a parabolic dish:

19 dbi Dish -
http://shop.borg.co.nz/product_info.php?cP...bf11553922b4e73
or:

24 Dbi Dish (stronger):
http://shop.borg.co.nz/product_info.php?cP...bf11553922b4e73

Dont have anyone to connect to yet or want to accept other people to connect to you... get a omni directional aerial:

Waveguide - 8+8 slot, 360 degree aerial:
http://shop.borg.co.nz/product_info.php?cP...bf11553922b4e73

To connect all thse things together you will need some cables and water proof boxes (if you are going to mount your ap's right next to the antenna so you dont lose signal strength in the cable). You can find these at the same site.

From all our research shop.borg.co.nz offers the cheapest gear around in NZ.

There you, you are all set...go get the gear...come join the revolution!!!
