Heys, I've set up a new node in Kohimarama, Auckland.
Location/Coverage:
It is near the intersection of Baddeley Avenue and Melanesia Road. At the present time the coverage from this node is very limited, however if there is enough interest I may purchase a better antenna to extend the coverage of this node.
Linking to other Nodes:
I am aware of at least two other people in Kohimarama who are interested in linking up to form a network, however I don't yet have enough cash to purchase equipment neccessary to establish a wireless link with other places in Kohimarama. If any more people are intersted, please do contact me so I can form an idea of how many people in Kohimarama are interested in forming a wireless network.
Internet Access:
At present I have my internet access via Woosh Wireless, which is avaliable through my node. I have MAC address filtering enabled, however, to stop people using the internet without my permission as I have a 1GB cap on my data usage. The internet access is through a NAT, which means that some stuff won't work (eg file transfers on MSN/ICQ/etc).
Equipment:
The server is a FreeBSD 4.10 box. It has a DHCP server to enable computers to automatically configure itself for my network and for internet access. The server is connected to a Linksys WAP11 access point, using its standard antenna. In the future I plan to upgrade the antenna to a better high-gain model.
IP Addresses:
At present the network is using the 192.168.1.x netblock as I have not been officially allocated an netblock by NZWireless. What is the process for requesting a NZWirelsss netblock?
