I think a firewall between the clinet network and the backbone is a MUSY

Maybe we need to get a copy of the new crimes amendment act. and use that as a guide as there are things in there that will have to be taken into account.

Here are also a couple of others that may be worth putting in.

Network abuse of any sort will noto be tolerated, services can be revoked with no pryor warning any such breach in the crimes amendment act or any other law, regulation or govenment act. NZWireless.org reserve the right to prosucute and follow up on any complaint made either on behalf of any user or member or otherwise.

It is the responsibility of any node owner to ensure that their equipment it maintained and does not degrade or interfere with the stability or performance of the public network.

The trafficing of objectionable matereal such as pornographic images or litrature will not be tolerated and will result in the offending members being banned from the network. This includes and is not limited to what is known as Kiddie Porn and Beastiality.

" I know the porn thing is a little bit harsh but we really need to protect the integrity of NZWireless"

Somewhere i think we also need to set yo a schedule for node owners. something that states that the node owners will take every measure to ensure their node stays up 99% of the time especially where the node is used as part of a backhaul.

Regards
Andrew

personally i think we are gettin way ahead of ourselves - we need a npo first and then we can set guidelines that we can enforce

Right now our main priorites should be the NPO and Ip tables

We are right on the verge of the network taking off. Once the nodes start going up then its harder to make global changes.

Different antenna strengths required.

Its always best to get the strongest gain antenna you can afford. Here is a guide to the strength of antenna you should bo looking at. If you are a certain distance from a AP node.

0 > 2KM - 9 to 12 dbi

2 > 4KM - 12 to 16 sbi

4 > 6KM - 16 to 19 dbi

6 or more KM then 23+ dbi

Pulled the figures out of my bum but you get the gist.

Maybe we have general code of conduct and network guide.

For these distances do you need a directional at both ends or will they work over this distance with one directional pointing to an omni ?

One should always use a directional unless you are providing service to a broad area. It will minimize the noise you pick up from others, and it will minimize the noise you generate for others that are not the intended target of the signal.

I think clients should be instructed to get the highest gain antenna they can afford, as that will reduce beam spread.

Default Noise reduction

A tip on reducing noise on p2p links is to switch poliarity on the antenna of each end (turn them upside down), good for those backhaul links where the signal will have to traverse noisy space from the CPE.
