Default NZWireless: Where to from here?

Hello all,

Over the last few weeks there has been plenty of discussion on the NZW make up and disposition.

This got me thinking about who we are and where we are going.

One thing is for certain irespective of steering groups, a NZW council and the like we want the network to get bigger. And thus here is a thread to discuss this issue.

Making NZW bigger:

NZ by its geographic nature is diverse and (with exception of a few places) quite hilly (no hamilton, speed buimps are not hills). Unless members join NZW that can offer these majestic views of the surrounds then we are all plagued by the problem we all know and love called LOS (line of sight n00b!).

Being that places with this much view cost at least a $10 dollars down in the south, here in Auckland they are a wee bit more.

Once way to get round this problem is to target ridge line houses or those with views in parts of the city that require coverage.

A thought to target these people, and infact any anybody or area, that we think needs more people to create more coverage is by flyers strategically dropped in mailboxes. How, When and Why to follow.

If you have some great ideas on creating a larger NZW then please post here.

both carriers (Telstra and Telecom) are rolling out their new ethernet layer 2 network. This will soon enable our networks to be linked together quite cheaply, so I thought we might offer internet at hopefully reduced rates over this kind of private link. Or just link some of the separate networks together.
