Default Offtopic Need your opinion on Jetstream services - new to NZ

I apologise for the Off Topic as it is not related to Wireless.
I need to order some services when I reach NZ. I need an honest independent opinion and this seems to be a well informed forum.
Can you tell me if the Jetstream Home 1000 Full speed is noticeably faster than the 256KB service. Telecom don't actually define the speed of the Home 1000 service but describe it as 50 times faster. That all sounds good but I am not sure if they have a reputation of over subscription
for home services. NOt sure what to order at tis stage.I'll wait for your responses.

Telecom only provide the networking side of things, on top of that you have your ISP.

Telecom of course will talk like it can do the lot, because it can, through its own ISP - xtra, and they'll rarely talk about the fact that you have a choice of ISP.

Personally I dont like xtra one bit, and I think you'd be better off looking at the services of Orcon or Inspire. With either of those two you'll get a better package at a more cost effective price, along with customer service that xtra could only dream about.

Telecom are also releasing a new line of plans:
http://www.telecom-media.co.nz/releases_de...3096&page=index

JetStream Go $29.95 + ISP fee 256k/128k 1GB Cap then 64kbit

JetStream Everyday $34.95 + ISP fee 1mbit/192k 1GB Cap then 64kbit

JetStream Explorer $39.95 + ISP fee 256k/128k 3GB Cap then 64kbit

JetStream Plus $59.95 + ISP fee 2mbit/192k 10GB Cap then 64kbit

JetStream Swift $59.95 + ISP fee 2mbit/192k 10GB Cap then 2c per MB ($20 per G
Plus ISP charge

So it begs the question - what do you primarily do with your connection, and where in the world are you unfortunate enough to be leaving to come here? One more question - when you settle here, whereabouts will you be living? In some places there is competition for Telecom and an alternative might be a better solution...

For example I'm on wireless 3mbit national/256k international flatrate for just under 80 bucks a month...

To answer your question though, yes the Jetstream Home 1000 is faster than 256k, it's uncapped ADSL, so depending on how far you are away from the exchange then you can get between 2Mbit/s and 8Mbit/s downstream and up to 1Mbit/s upstream

Of course telecom will charge you 20c per MB over the 1000MB limit
