Hey contact me, I am doing something at the moment (ok this next few weeks) from cental whangarei. Using a cental db to enable roaming over spots etc. If you have your own basic gear we could add you in (our central db for access control) and let you earn something as well (well assuming someone wants to access your spare bandwidth). Want to play?
The idea is for each hotspot owner to earn proportioan to what clients have used. So for client x who pays for 1mth access at say $40, and who uses 60% of their bandwidth at hotspotA and 20% at hotspotB and 20% at access point C. The income would go 60 to A 20 to B and 20 to C. All central control for payments (captive portal) and remembursments. The more hotspots the better.

No not at all!
There seems to a lot of positive and negative emotion around that group, but I think i will stay neutral till i see them actually doing something (other than deals and pilots).
There is a wifi service used primarily by the boaties in the town basin (pacificwifi) that we are going to fix/extend and do something a bit more fun with. The idea is that anybody with adsl at home, and an appropriate attitude, might as well add in their wifi AP to our service. Centalised billing etc makes it a bit of a no brainer. Every additional hotspot improves the flexablity of the service (for roaming at the least)...
Are we just playing around. Why yes i think so

Hi - you can setup your own WIFI Hotspot and earn some $$ off it too. Drop me an email and I will explain. (or 021-906659)
