Hey are there any real live Wellington wireless-people who are still working on this end of the island that arent trying to set-up commercial nodes? Ive been emailing people but dont seem to get any feedback on the wellington node situation/group/organisation Whats Up? wellington.nzwireless.org.nz is down
I got an email from the wellington admin saying they were working on a Hutt Valley network -I assumed it is commercial as i got no other info about anything to do with wireless. My node is Ahika .
we (the operators of wgtn.nzw.org) are primarily focused on the hutt area, because that's where we are situated. But we are trying to provide a common area for people from around the greater region to collaborate and follow a similar set of ideals...
We are not setting up to be commercial, we are setting up to be a REAL community network - not a network for just geeks, but a network that can provide services to any resident of the area. This is a little more complicated in that the network will have to bring in money to pay for itself (growth, maintenance, r&d, upstream provider etc), so we're essentially a non-profit.
In the meantime I'd suggest you get in touch with tumunu, he seems to be busy over there...
I just went looking for the Welligton map to do a comparison of whats listed and what I have picked up on the way home from work. Any chance of emailing me a copy?
Been a bit pissed about all the shet that goes down on the wifi mailing list. This is the first time i've been back in over a year.
Yip, i've been trying to build a local loop. Yip, its currently offline at the moment ( was put together with band b ... which is absolute shet! ).
Currently reassesing how i can use all my shet for band g ( got shet loads of linux boxes ).
The topography of Porirua has been hell ( line of sight issues ) and the council are just dorks!
At the moment i'm trying to work on 3 key points in porirua ( yip one the hills near ascot park - done, raumati - still looking, and titahi bay - in discussion ) to get the backbone up and just spred out from there ... red tape aint my thing so its taking a tad longer than planned.
Contact MAKO via nodedb.com he'll be interested in the company :-)
Yo! you must be the guy with all the nodes around porirua, give me a bell on tristram@wtfhax.com and we can have a chat, i've got some very intresting plans for porirua in the works aswell so no point in doubling up
What happened to buying all those antennas i ordered from australia for you! I believe you wanted 5 or 6 flat panel antennas, so when i got landed the bill i never heard from you again!
