Wireless Programming

I am relatively new to network programming and have begun to understand the basics, however I am conducting a project which consists of making a program that uses 802.11b wireless to connect the network and I have no idea of the differences in programming wireless compared to wired or how to start programming wirelessly.

Could anybody please give me some advice or show me where I could find such advice. I am using C++.

network/socket programming works in layer 3-4.
wired/wireless is just the matter of data medium which is layer 1.
