customized ringtones

I would like to give someone a customized ringtone (a recording of her daughter's voice) as a present. How can I do this? (I don't have a mobile telephone and know nothing about them.) I can make the recording on tape, MP3, msn, Yahoo, etc.

Thanks for any simple-English help.

The ring tones will be available through the iTunes Store, and customers will be able to choose which part of a song they want for their customized ringer, according to The New York Post.
