How do i secure my connection ?

Hi, i have a DI-524 and i am trying since 4 days to get my wireless connection secure. I did everything they said in the book and th cd rom but still my connection is saying, unsecure so what do i do ??? Please help ! Thank you very much !!!

Usually windows says a network is unsecure if it doesn't have WEP/WPA turned on

That's it ! How do i turn it on ? That is my problem right now ! How ???

On page 8 of the pdf manual there's an instruction on how to do it when you're using the wizard to setup the device, but I'm not sure where you'd find it when it is already setup (I don't have a device to try it on), but look for WEP or WPA or Encryption somewhere in the wireless settings.

Also make sure you're using the latest firmware for the device.

Hi thank you so much for your help. I still have a question.. I did enabled the wep so now, they are asking me what kind of key... i am so confused with all that. Wath key i am supposed to put ? Wich numbers ??? Do i put anything or what ?

Yea, just put in anything, although some only do hex numbers 0-9 and A-F. Just remember/write down the key so you can enter the same key on your clients when you set them up to connect to the network.

In these world nothing is secure...u cant secure your network im sorry, u will always find a hacker that can crack in your network (especialy if he's useing linux) but u can discourage lame hacker or good hackers that dont want to waste a lot of time with this simple rules:

1)Change your router username,password and SSID
2)Use advance encryption: Wpa-PSK (TKIP) is supported by a lot of wifi devices, but its better if u use more advance encryptions (!!!DONT USE WEP!!! IT TAKES 15MIN TO CRACK USEING WINXP)
3)Use the MAC adress filter.
4)Dont broadcast your SSID
5)Use a network monitor utility i suggest look@lan (www.lookatlan.com - Network Monitoring and Management Solutions - Network Monitoring and Management Solutions)
6)Turn off DHCP on AP
7)IMPORTANT turn off your network when yuor not useing it.

I have 2 computers in my house. 1 - has wifi the other - wired. But my neighbor can surf internet by using his computer near my house. What should i do to stop it? How could i protect my computer?

WEP encryption allows you to set a number as a key, which acts as a password. Only people who know your key will be able to use your router

Hi friends, Goto setting of your wireless connection and enable the WEP. This something similar to the password. when anyone wants to connet to your system through this wireless, then they need to give this WEP key . When WEP key is incorrect then nobody can touch your wireless connection.

I think this like problem is happening is low now.
If it is happen then take the help from the Microsoft virus protection license version software which protect your PC and mobile in which you get it install.

secure internet connection ----

1.) change the default router access password( the password you enter before you can access the router)

2.) set up wireless encrption like jhunter said wep is the weakest with WPA being the strongest

3.) set up mac address filtering (google that exact phrase to find out more about

4.) turn off wireless SSID broadcast - if your routers not telling any other device that its there they have to know your SSID in order to access your router then they need the password.

5.) with enougth time a hacker can get into any system they want to.
