Bit of a strange one but was wondering if anyone had any input. I work for a council and we want to give users access to our wireless network but we also want to take away the ability for them to set up their own wireless configuration on their laptops. i.e the search for available wireless networks wizard.
I was setting up our wireless network on another councils laptop and they had managed to lock their wireless card down. Somehow it was being shown as a wired connection in network connections so therefore the ability to set up and search for a wireless network was disabled. The way i had to set the wireless connection up was to go into the wireless cards properties from device manager and set up the connection manually in the advanced setting of the wireless cards properties. The network connection was then showing as connected still as a wired connection. Any ideas how they managed to set this up??
This way or a similar way of doing this would be very useful if only i knew how...
Not sure about the method you explain but you could look into Group Policy. Either locally or roaming.
Group policy will allow you to configure machines as admin and then lock down everything. This includes network connections etc.
