"Validating Identity" message when connecting
When I try to connect my laptop to my home wireless security-enabled network, I am seeing the "Validating Identity" message, that appears and doesn't go away. So it seems like I am almost connected, but not quite. Waiting for 10-15 minutes didn't help, it was still "validating identity"... Can someone please help me get this corrected?

Your laptop need to have the same SSID, authentication , encryption setting plus a passkey or password of the wireless network/wireless access point/router.
just right click the wireless network or navigate to network properties, enter the same . then it would be ok
I never get to this stage. I can access the "home" wireless hub, but when I take my Sony Vaio laptop with me on my travels and click on the wireless network connections that are in range I get an explanation mark over the wirlesssignal indicator and the information (upon making a right click on the wireless network) that, while the signal may be excellent, i do not have internet access.
I cannot see how to get to a pay option (internet explorer says it cannot display any website and "diagnosing the problem" doesnt resolve it). The result is that I cannot use my laptop for wireless access anywhere except in my home, which is not very "wireless" really, other than around the house! Does anyone have any thoughts? (I am very sorry to Wayne and Svlad for posting this as a reply as I cannot work out how to create a new post in a new thread either..duhh..maybe because I am still a junior I guess.).Nik
may be just go to your wireless network properties and check what settings you did in your Sony
it seems your laptop wireless card is set with a static address for your home use.
you should set it with automatic receiving IP address.
Sorry for a delay with response. Both laptop and router settings are the same: Encryption: WEP, Authentication Type: Open, Encryption Key - clearly the same. Still, can't get past this "Validating Identity" screen on laptop. I should mention this laptop runs Windows XP. I have several other PCs on this wireless network running Windows 7 - not having any issues with them... The router is Rosewell RNX-EasyN400.
Never mind - I found what the probelm was. Under Authentication tab for the connection, the checkmark was placed next to "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network". Upon removal, I am connecting with no problem!
