Default Belkin Router Wrecking Connection

I am currently on a satellite internet connection which doesn't run particularly fast but it does the job.

I brought a Belkin wireless router [Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN] so that the rest of the house would be able to get the internet rather then just my desktop. While the download rate is the same I have trouble establishing a connection sometimes.

It will say it is connected to the network but when I have try to load internet pages I have to refresh a bunch of times to finally get the page to start loading, and it's the same with downloads or IM.
I didn't have this problem before the wireless router, but I really need the house to be networked.

Is there any program I could run or perhaps a few settings I could change that could get my internet working the way it should.

And by the way, it happens on all computers I've tried it on, my laptop, and 2 desktops do the same thing so I know its the router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To make it clear you have a decent connection when directly connected to the modem.
You lost speed when you get your connection throught the router.

What is your speed with and without router with testmy.net ?

Is your Belkin firmare updated ?

What DNS are used?

OK, I checked my download and upload speed and they are as listed:
Download :: 135 Kbps or 0.14 Mbps (16 kB/s)
Upload :: 282 Kbps or 0.3 Mbps (34 kB/s)

The speed that everything runs at isn't actually affected, it's just that sometimes it doesn't connect. Once a download has commenced everything runs fine, and downloads have even reached speeds of up to 200 kB/s.

How would I go about updating my belkin router? I've run the install disks but that's all.

My DNS address is currently:
192.168.2.1

Thanks...

update your firmware, follow the belkin procedure...

but if you tested your speed directly to the moden (without the router you can see this si not a belkin problem.

DNS: of course I am talking about the dns from your rooter to the internet.
192.168.2.1 is not your real DNS.

Belkin router access is 192.168.2.1 (as far as I remenber) you have all information there.

But
What is your sat provider?
What is your plan?
When did you install your satellite system?

Thank you to give me the feeling I am a geek !

Nothing wrong with being a geek..

My satellite provider is ipstar (that's the name on the modem)
I've had the satellite for over 2 years now and I'm on a 2gb off peak 1gb on peak plan. I know its small but its the bst I can get for where I live.

I've actually had the wireless router in for a year now, but up until this point I've endured it. Its just gotten too much, and complaints about the inconsitency is too much

Thanks for helping out too btw

Try changing the channel on your wireless router. You'll find it in the router set-up (config) screens, it may just be that you're hitting interference.

Don't forget you'll also need to change the channel on your various wireless adapters / network cards as well if they don't auto-detect.

Hope this helps,

Sparks
