Exclamation Business to home conversion

I have recently got my hands on my mothers old belkin wireless router used for her shop, which has changed hands since

i have tryed setting it up at home but cant seem to recieve any data packets after connection

my house i currently wired up to tesco broadband, with a wired adsl modem
but the router came with the BT business package

it is most probably the case that i need to switch isp to BT but im wondering if there is any other solution

with a troubleshoot program it says my dns is unable to resolve IP addresses, can anyone explain this

reply asap please

You shouldn't need to change ISP -they all use BT lines at the end of the day. You just need to find a way to connect your ADSL modem to the Belkin router. Does the Belkin router have an ADSL modem built-in? If so - you can probably just use that, if not then you should connect one of the output ethernet network (not US ports on the modem to the WAN port on the Belkin.

You'll probably have to experiment a bit - but you shouldn't need to buy new kit/change ISP.
Hope this helps,

probvlem is the prvided modem for tesco broardband came with a usb modem that plugs straight into the computer
the router has a adsl/rj11 port and 4 lan outputs im still nt sure as to how to connect my adsl modem to the router
can i just connect to the adsl modem normally and have the router pluged into another phone line with the lan cable into the comp?
there seems to be no data transfer
it may have somethign to do with the IP address settings
all ive done is copied the ip settings from the original computer to my current computer

Hi,

Step 1 - If the wireless router has an adsl port on it, then you should be able to just plug the cable currently going from your phone socket into your USB modem, into that port.

You'll probably want to do steps 2 and 3 with a physical connection to the machine, so if your computer has a network socket, and you've got a network cable - plug that in to the output socket of the wireless router to do these.

Step 2- You will need to access the routers control screens (I'd suggest you google the manual to find out how to do this) and make sure that the settings for it's internet connection are set to the same as your USB modem's settings.
Step 3 - You'll also want to set up the wireless settings for the router whilst you're in there - choose an SSID and security key, etc.

If your wireless settings on your computer(s) are correct you should then be able to access the router over wireless and firewalls, anti-virus software, etc permitting you should be able to access the internet.

Hope this helps
