Default Can connect but can't go anywhere.

Hi All

I have a new Dell Inspiron 1505 with a Intel Core Duo Proc T2050 (1.60Ghz/533MHz), 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz the wireless card is a Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 and it is running Widows XP. I’m using a Linksys WRT54G router to connect to the web.
Here is my problem when I first turn it on it connects to my router with a strong signal, but when I open IE it will not load a page or go anywhere. All it dose is on the task bar it says it is looking for Microsoft.com then it looks for google.com and then it goes blank. The progress bar on the task bar goes about half way across and then goes blank.
Then after a few minutes the laptop looses the connection and the wireless icon in the lower right corner says that a wireless connection is found and to double-click to connect. When I do that the Intel ProSet/Wireless window opens and states that wireless is turned off, select “Enable Radio” below to enable wireless network. When I select the button which is displaying disable radio on it, it show Enable Radio, with a check next to it and it is grayed out so it can not be selected and a disable radio that is dark and can be selected. When I select disable radio nothing changes. The only ways I can fix this is by rebooting the computer which dose not work every time or by uninstalling the drivers for the wireless card and then rebooting which works so I can get connected to my router but can’t surf the web.
I have taken the computer out to other places and it works the same way. Other people have come here and been able to get online and surf the web with no problem, they had apple laptops. I have also spent over 5 hours on line and on the phone with dell support and they can’t help.
Any help or suggestions anyone can give would be great. Thanks

Default Faulty WLAN

Hi There
From what you are saying if it won't work on other wireless networks and other people can use your Linksys ok, then it may be a faulty mini pci wireless card in your laptop. I assume you have the latest drivers. The antenna cables may have come off the connectors on the card, but you won't be able to open it as the warranty will be void. You need to send it back to be checked.
Good luck
Dale

We finally got it work (sorta)
We had to reboot in safe mode and uninstall the Pro/set drivers.
Then it worked until the rounter got unplugged now it work sometimes and sometimes it dosen't.
I will call Dell again and see what they say.
Thanks

Try updating the router firmware. The i3945 often does this with older APs and routers.

My son has an DELL Inspiron 1505 (Dual Core processor) and has had nothing but problems with the wireless connection. The problem always occurs when he moves from a wireless connection to another wireless site. All sites are using LINKSYS routes, same Channel, but different SSID names. I have installed the latest DELL Drivers for the wireless support. It seems that most of the time, the radio is switched. He even has problems with the wired straight ethernet connections. He has been on the phone will DELL support for hours without any success. When I have the computer in my house, I can get it connected. (Shutdown (perhaps several times), uninstall the wireless driver support, reinstall, etc). My daughter has a DELL 1505 but with the single processor and has never had this problem. I've been working on PCs for over 20 years now and am stumped to why this DELL is so unreliable. I have 4 other IBM Thinkpads in my house and they always connect to my LINKSYS router and can connect wireless to any location I go to. My next step would be to setup a LINKSYS external wireless card on my son's machine. I suspect that would provide better reliability. But when you just buy a machine for a little under $1000K, you would expect it to work. Has anyone found the magic to setups/new drivers/etc to get the DELL wireless adaptor to connect (not limited connections) each time you move from one wireless location to another?

I am having the same problems with my Dual Core 1505. I am a U.S. Soldier stationed in Germany and when I first had the problem I had a German fix it for me. He also had this computer and fixed it in no time. He was working with other customers while he was fixing so I didn't see what all he did but it only took a few minutes. He did tell me it was setting in internet explorer that are not compatible with the card. The problem happened when I used a wireless connection at work then tried to use the one home again. Now it has happened again. I logged on at a internet cafe and then could not get on at home. The guy that helped me has not been answering his phone and I do not understand his German answeing machine. Anyway, I have been trying to figure this out on my own with no luck. I think it is somthing simple but I just can't get. Please post if you have any info or the same problem.
