Can connect to router, networked comps, but not DNS

OK, I am stumped. I have 4 computers at home. Three of them are connected via wire and work great. My other PC runs XP and wireless. I can connect to my router fine. I can access shared folders on my network fine. I cannot connect to the DNS server (same # as the wired machines or auto) and therefore, cannot connect to the internet. I tried pinging the DNS and have no luck. I have called Netgear (WPN311 adapter, WPN824 access point, FVS114 router) and Comcast with no satisfaction. I have also disabled windows firewall and McAfee firewall with no difference. I have used netgear's software and windows zero config with no difference. According to either the netgear utility (95%) or WZC (4 out of 5 bars) I have very good signal. Netgear has about 4 different versions of their driver for the WPN311 and I have tried them all. The AP (WPN824) has the latest firmware loaded on it from netgear's website. Anything else I can try or do I just live without the internet on this PC? I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of!!!

It sure sounds like a firewall problem, but maybe it has to do with your IP address. Forgive me if these are obvious things you've already examined: Are you running DHCP from your router? Does your laptop's subnet mask and gateway match up with the rest of the computers?

Try running this at the cmd prompt:

ipconfig /all

Does the correct DNS server appear?

For good measure, run

ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /registerdns

Hi there, have you checked under your internet connection properties that there is no Proxy server information set. This is under "LAN Settings" in the connection properties. If this computer has been used on a company LAN they may be in there from a previous network.

I ran ipconfig /all and everything (except description (wired vs wireless adatper) ip address (192.168.0.8 vs. 192.168.0.5) and physical address (00-08-02-B7-AA-4E vs. 00-0F-B5-F7-9D-8A)) was set identically. I ran /renew and /registerdns too. I disabled McAfee and Window Firewall service. One thing, my router shows up as a uPNP device. When I go to network connections, it lists it an Internet Gateway with a connected Internet Connection. When I open it and go to properties and then settings, there are no services. Do I need anything in there?

There is no proxy information under Connections.

OK, another update. I tried pinging the DNS servers again and this time it worked, but still no web pages....I still can't ping yahoo either.

I found that I had to completely uninstall McAffee firewall on one of my computers in order to get rid of its blocking effect. Maybe that should be the next attempt.
