Can play DVD but not CD:Toshiba Sd C2502 DVD/CD ROM

I have a HP notebook with DVD?CD ROM player: Toshiba SD C2502. It no longer will read cd audio or cd data. however, I can play any DVD. I spent months talking to manufacturer who said that it is usually the opposite=can play cd but not dvd. he suggested that player might have 2 lasersne reads cd and other reads DVD??? Conclusion was that the cd laser is broken. Some have suggested cleaning lens with cd cleaner...CD won't play to do that. Some suggest to get into the computer to remove screws and aluminum plate to find dust or hair. Can someone point me to where I can learn HOW to get into the player? Or..any other suggestions for solutions would be greatly appreciated. Be gentle with the terminology please..Thanks for reading!
