Default cannot repair connection

I had a belkin wireless router and adaptor card in my computer and it worked fine except the signal was weak so I purchased a D-like USB wireless adaptor. Since I have installed this adaptor, I can get online when I first boot up, but about a half hour later, I cannot open a browser even though the wireless icon still says I am connected. When I try to do a repair with the windows utility, the system locks up. I cannot even shut the computer down. I have to manually reset the computer. I have no encryption enabled and I have disabled my firewall. i have tried installing the adapter with the d-link software and with windows. Both caused the same results. Any suggestions?

You could possibly have a hardware conflict. Try uninstalling the USB adapter, then if it stops crashing, the USB is the problem.

Instead of buying a USB adapter to gain the signal better, try replacing the antenna with a stronger one. If your card's antenna is detachable. I have found that to be the easiest, cheapest, and most simple solution.

ps. the repair connection option in windows has never fixed any of my problems. And it also sometimes locks up with me.
