Hi - I have a Belkin router (F5D7633/4 if this makes any difference) which is Ok most of the time THEN connection is suddenly lost as confirmed by the router LEDs
On switching off the computer my router is back to normal health within 10 seconds. Any ideas? [I've lost a good bit of time over a long period + restart wastes energy!]
I don't say what client you are using (MS/Linux/Mac) on your PC. I haven't checked on your Router but you don't say how you are connecting to it (wired/wireless).
There aren't to many things that will effectively shut down another device on a network, but here are a couple that can.
2 Devices with the same IP
2 Devices with the same MAC
2 Devicesd with the same name
The other thing to check is virii or trojan, with the rapid emergence of wireless it is only a matter of time defore hackers start thinking of ways to commit DOS attaches on the wireless devices themselves. We are spending a lot of money to minimise our risk in this matter. A difficult thing on a public network.
The IP address's router and computer are different however I noted that the IP gateway address is the same as that in the IP in the router(though both bits of hardware do not share the same gateway address..)
Sorry, I don't understand the MAC or the name reference(unless by MAC you mean as opposed to a PC which is what I'm on- using XP)
The connection computer-- router is via a yellow RJ45 cable
Have you attepted o do a master reset on the router. There is no logical explanation as to why the act of turning your computer on whilst connected to your router should stop the router. Maybe it could be the cable itself.
Thanks for furthur suggestion Fred , It's not the cable though as I tried another also the fault now seems down to the computer as I now have a laptop also cable connected and using this leaves the connection good...
(a few days ago my desktop when started at 9.00 am took out the wireless connection and it stayed out for the day!)
After furthur tests I now know the above is nothing to do with the router, & nothing re the line supply for ADSL.
- the problem seems to be caused by my desktop computer via the power line, as there is nothing else connected , I don't know how this could be....
