Connection delay

I have a good working wireless network, 1 dektop and 1 laptop. A second laptop I have was working fine - but then started to have a problem connecting. On power up it would not find the network, but if I leave it for 10-15 mins it will just connect.

The laptop will just not see the good strength network at all until it is ready. It does however see other low strength networks in the area. Once it does connect though it shows full strength connection, and it does not drop at all (used for up to 6 hours non-stop including web browsing etc as well as local file sharing).

I have borrowed a USB wireless adaptor and this works immeciately - so there does not appear to be a problem with the machine itself.

All router firmware and drivers are all latest version.
Security is on (WKIP)
Netgear router
Win zero control only on both laptop and Desktop

Any clues would be appreciated

Does the location or orientation of the laptop affect the problem?

sorry no I should have said the physical orientation or location makes no difference. I have tried the laptop literally on top of the router.
