Unhappy CPU or Motherboard

My PC kept shutting down for no reason and then gave up the ghost entirely.
I took it to shop wher they replaced a faulty hard drive.
which I thought had done the trick but to find that at random it reboots itself and dumps memory.Showing all sorts of error messages.(never the same twice).
I have eliminated memory faults and overheating.
How do I tell if I need to replace CPU or motherboard or both?
