Exclamation D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520 Wireless P Problem

Hi,
I seem to have a problem with my Wireless. Let me retrack first! I had terrible problems with my Windows Media Player, which wasn't playing anything. I was advised to download service pack 2 which I did, however, by doing so my connection status screen was changed. It wouldn't connect, but then I figured out how to connect it and it was fine. Though there still is a problem.....

My wireless will drop out by itself due to the weak signal. When this happens the webpages that is loading normally does not get displayed and my MSN will disconnect itself and then take 30 seconds or so to reconnect. Very annoying! I used to have this problem with my old wireless, though some how I figured a way to fix it up by going into a window that had a column on the left side with different subcategories. Though I have no idea how I fixed it up to stop MSN from disconnecting when my wireless dropped out. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much to whoever writes back, you're a legend!

Look, I dont want to sound rude here, but I am a little angry! Over 60 people have looked at this post, but not one, NONE, have replied. Every other post seems to get a reply, but I have not. I have a problem, I wanted it fix, but it seems you would all prefer to reply to each other's posts than someone new....

You can't expect someone to help you, people help out on the forum because they like to help people. Maybe no one knows how to fix your problem?

Have you tried updating your wireless drivers on your laptop and updating the firmware on your router/access point? Sometimes this fixes problems.

Sorry mate, I try my best to reply to queries whether the poster is new or not. The truth is I only have limited spare time, and sometimes some posts manage to slip through unnoticed when I am not around my computer for a week. The same applies to many other regular users of the forum. Please try not to take it personally.

Back to the issue, MSN does behave oddly on flaky wireless connections, the only way to relaibly fix it is to improve the wireless connection itself. If you use Windows XP, any third party wireless utilities that are installed can conflict with Windows own built-in wireless service. This gives very similar symptoms to those you described above.

If you have a third party utility (such as the one D-Link often supplies with its cards) I'd recommend removing it and letting Windows do the work instead as this usually works best. Alternatively, stop and disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service in Windows and leave the utility installed if you find you prefer it.

If either of these do not help, it may be an idea to purchase a small external antenna with higher gain than the stock one (5-7dBi usually helps). These can be found for a reasonably low cost at most electronics stores.
